Nick Jackson MW is a Master of Wine with 10 years’ experience working with the world’s finest wines.

Nick received a Ph.D. in Theology from the University of Cambridge, where he was also introduced to wine. While at Cambridge, he helped run the Cambridge University Wine Society, and was a member of the victorious Cambridge University Blind Wine Tasting Society team in its annual varsity match against Oxford in 2011. While working on his Ph.D., he worked at noted independent merchant, Cambridge Wine Merchants, specializing in French wines.

After submitting his Ph.D. he started working at Sotheby’s Wine Department in London as an auction specialist. A year later, he moved to the retail division of Sotheby’s Wine in New York City and quickly became the buyer for the retail business. Nick left Sotheby’s at the end of 2018, having built a noted wine list for the store, focusing particularly on Bordeaux and Burgundy. The wine list was recognized in the Wine-Searcher retailer awards in 2018 as the best overall retail wine list in New York City.

Nick passed the WSET Diploma in 2014. In 2015, he began the Master of Wine qualification - generally considered the highest qualification in wine. In 2017 he passed the theory and tasting exams at the first attempt. He submitted the final research paper in 2018 and became a Master of Wine in February 2019. As of 2021, there are 418 Masters of Wine worldwide, and 56 in the USA.

In 2020 he published his first book, Beyond Flavour, a guide to wine tasting. Described by Wine Spectator as ‘quietly the best wine book to come out in recent memory’, it was positively reviewed in the Wall Street Journal, The Times and many others. Developing the ideas in the book, Nick presented a series of wine education webinars, The School of Taste, during the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic. The School of Taste is now a fully fledged wine webinar platform, offering a variety of live and pre-recorded wine webinar content.

Nick lives in Florida, and outside of wine, enjoys golf, baseball, Victorian novels and opera.
